Acies launches Specialist Schemes, designed for recruitment firms

Acies MGU, a technology and data-led managing general underwriter (MGU), has launched a new managing general agent (MGA), Acies Specialist Schemes, with a product designed specifically for recruitment firms.

The new unit is led by senior underwriter Rachael Light (pictured above).

Acies Specialist Schemes will focus on developing sector-specific solutions aimed at industries with insurance needs not typically addressed by the broader market.

The first product from the new MGA is backed by A-rated capacity and combines cover for professional indemnity, public liability, employers’ liability, property and business interruption. It also addresses risks linked to contractual liabilities, overseas placements and other exposures common within the recruitment sector.

Light named as senior underwriter

Light has been appointed as senior underwriter to lead the development of the product. She brings experience from SEIB Insurance Brokers, where she spent seven years managing delegated authority schemes across niche sectors, followed by three years at Kingfisher Insurance Services.

Light is joined by Nikki Cox, who also moves from Kingfisher, where she was a schemes development executive. Cox previously held roles as a commercial account handler and commercial manager at SEIB.

Mark Health, CEO of Acies MGU, said the company aims to expand its portfolio of specialist MGAs by working with underwriters who have sector knowledge and broker-focused experience. He said the new business unit was created to offer tailored solutions for sectors that often face difficulty accessing appropriate cover through standard market offerings.

“Our specialist technical underwriters have the expertise required to shape these products,” Heath said. “We plan to continue developing and launching new schemes to support a range of industries.”

Commenting on the launch, Light said the recruitment sector requires detailed attention to contractual risks that vary by client. She said she and Cox are focused on building out further specialist products within Acies.

In April 2024, Acies MGU established Phoenix Specialty as part of its broader growth strategy. Phoenix, a specialist MGA dedicated to the construction sector, is operating under the leadership of Tim James as managing director, subject to regulatory approval.
